Walk for Peace Travels through Brunswick County

Southside Behavioral Health was honored to be part of a meaningful moment as the Buddhist Monks’ Walk for Peace traveled through Brunswick County during their cross-country journey to Washington, D.C.
The Walk for Peace spans 2,300 miles from Fort Worth, Texas, to the nation’s capital, spreading awareness of mindfulness, compassion, and inner peace along the way. Communities across the country have welcomed the monks as they walk, creating opportunities for reflection and connection.
The monks entered Brunswick County on January 28, where they were greeted by local citizens and members of the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office. That evening, they stayed at Pleasant Hill Christian Church in Gasburg. On January 29, they continued their walk through Lawrenceville before spending the night at Bethel United Methodist Church in Alberta. The following morning, January 30, they completed their journey through Brunswick County as they continued north toward Washington, D.C.
During their visit, Captain Joey Lopresti pinned Southside Behavioral Health’s Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) pin to Venerable Pannakara’s ceremonial kashaya robe. This gesture symbolically carries recognition of Brunswick County and Southside Behavioral Health forward as the monks continue their journey through Virginia and on to Washington, D.C.
May their journey continue safely and warmly, spreading peace and mindfulness to all they meet along the way!
