Terick

When Terick arrived at Southside Behavioral Health’s Hope House in 2006, he came from a nursing home environment where his independence and opportunities to connect with the community were limited. He was ready for a change and place where he could make more choices about his own life.
At Hope House, Terick has received a wide range of services tailored to his needs, including day support, community support, employment services, dietary guidance, medical and nursing care, recreational activities, and residential support. This combination has really helped him in not only his daily living but also his personal growth.
Since joining Southside Behavioral Health, Terick has gained a new level of independence and confidence. He now makes more of his own decisions, both big and small. He really enjoys going out into the community, occasionally on his own but also with friends. Along the way he’s experienced exciting firsts from visiting Virginia Beach, Washington D.C., to spending the day at Busch Gardens, enjoying the Universal Circus, and making new friends in the local community.
“It has been fun and I am enjoying living here.” Terick shared. One of his proudest accomplishments is landing a job and earning his own money, this allows him the opportunity to buy things he enjoys, like a Playstation 5. For Terick, being trusted to make his own choices and live as independently as possible is what makes Hope House feel like home.
