Substance Use Disorder
Same Day Access
For individuals with substance use disorder interested in services, Southside Behavioral Health offers Same Day Access. This is a first-come, first-serve service aimed at getting individuals the help they need as soon as possible with minimum to no wait time. Sometimes life can’t be scheduled and we want to make sure our doors are always open to those who need us.

Comprehensive Assessment
Once in the door, individuals will meet with one of Southside Behavioral Health's highly trained therapists to complete a full assessment of need. Our comprehensive assessment addresses 15 areas of need that work together to construct a full image of individuals and provide a better understanding of their current needs.
Based on individuals input and responses, clinical team members develop customized plans based on individual needs, signs, symptoms of withdrawal, and risks. For example, an individual may benefit most from a combination of Individual Therapy, Case Management, and Peer Services. This combination of services would provide both individual and group support as well as a connection to other community resources.
Outpatient Therapy
To better understand the effect substance use has on our mental health or vice versa, Southside Behavioral Health has licensed clinicians available to discuss a wide range of concerns. These qualified professionals are adept at leading in-depth discussions around different topics of addiction in order to help individuals better understand causes, triggers, and other essential elements critical to success.

Psychiatry
Individuals struggling with both mental health and substance use are able to access psychiatry services in an effort to stabilize their struggle with substance use. Again, Southside Behavioral Health likes to target individuals as a whole rather than just focusing on a single issue. This gives individuals more treatment options and increases their chances of success. Southside Behavioral Health psychiatrists and nurse practitioners are available either for face-to-face or telemed sessions and can offer medication management based on individual needs.
Case Management
Studies show that people with substance use disorders have better treatment outcomes if other mental health issues are addressed at the same time. However, finding and managing various treatments can be overwhelming. Southside Behavioral Health’s case managers can help. These qualified mental health professionals are well-connected within their communities and can function as a single point of contact for clients, helping them manage and advocate for treatment.
For example, case managers are able to arrange appointments and schedule transportation for individuals, making sure they are able to juggle daily life and their treatment plans successfully without getting overwhelmed with the details. Case managers can also offer guidance and recommendations on other essential resources necessary for recovery.

Drug Court
Individuals facing a sentence for jail time with substance use charges may qualify for drug court services. Through drug court, individuals are given the opportunity to participate in outpatient substance use treatment services in lieu of having to serve their sentence.
Qualified individuals are appointed a probation officer, expected to conduct weekly drug screens, and attend peer support groups and group treatment programs. Those entering this program may be expected to attend up to three outpatient therapy groups a week as well as community recovery meetings. As these individuals progress through drug court, the number of meetings required will decrease based on their level of need.
Office-Based Opioid Treatment (OBOT)
Individuals struggling with opioid addiction may qualify for office-based opioid treatment (OBOT). Southside Behavioral Health prescribers are able to assist individuals with both opioid treatment induction and maintenance. OBOT services can be provided either face-to-face or through telemedicine.
To qualify for induction, individuals must be in active withdrawals and meet other clinical criteria. Qualified individuals are given induction medication in the office and monitored to make sure their withdrawal symptoms stabilize.

After individuals are determined to be stable, they are prescribed a maintenance dose of medication. During opioid treatment maintenance, individuals are prescribed medication, expected to complete drug screens, and participate in outpatient therapy and peer support services.

Coordination & Referrals
Southside Behavioral Health staff are able to help coordinate referrals for individuals with additional needs outside our current services. For example, if a individual with substance use disorder needs detoxification or residential services, our therapists can help coordinate these resources, make connections, and arrange the care they need.
Peer Services
Peer Services are led by individuals with lived experience: people who have walked in an individual's shoes. This allows them to better understand and predict various stressors an individual may be struggling with. Peer Recovery Specialists have completed specialized training and are certified to provide these specialized services.
Peer Recovery services are designed to help individuals open up and feel more comfortable discussing concerns. It also provides them with useful resources within their communities as well as with coping skills for working through various stressors.
