Substance Use Disorder
Same Day Access
For substance-use clients interested in services, Southside Behavioral Health offers Same Day Access. This is a first-come, first-serve service aimed at getting clients the help they need as soon as possible with minimum to no wait time. Sometimes life can’t be scheduled and we want to make sure our doors are always open to those who need us.

Comprehensive Assessment
Once in the door, clients will meet with one of Southside Behavioral Health's highly trained therapists to complete a full assessment of need. Our comprehensive assessment addresses 15 areas of need that work together to construct a full image of clients and provide a better understanding of their current needs.
Based on client input and responses, clinical team members develop customized plans based on client needs, signs, symptoms of withdrawal, and risks. For example, a client may benefit most from a combination of Individual Therapy, Case Management, and Peer Services. This combination of services would provide both individual and group support as well as a connection to other community resources.
Outpatient Therapy
To better understand the effect substance use has on our mental health or vice versa, Southside Behavioral Health has certified substance abuse counselors and licensed clinicians available to discuss a wide range of concerns. These qualified professionals are adept at leading in-depth discussions around different topics of addiction in order to help clients better understand causes, triggers, and other essential elements critical to success.

Psychiatry
Clients struggling with both mental health and substance use are able to access psychiatry services in an effort to stabilize their struggle with substance or drug use. Again, Southside Behavioral Health likes to target clients as a whole rather than just focusing on a single issue. This gives clients more treatment options and increases their chances of success. Southside Behavioral Health psychiatrists are available either for face-to-face or telemed sessions and can offer medication management based on individual client needs.
Case Management
Studies show that people with substance use disorders have better treatment outcomes if other mental health issues are addressed at the same time. However, finding and managing various treatments can be overwhelming. Southside Behavioral Health’s case managers can help. These qualified mental health professionals are well-connected within their communities and can function as a single point of contact for clients, helping then manage and advocate for treatment.
For example, case managers are able to arrange appointments and schedule transportation for clients, making sure they are able to juggle daily life and their treatment plans successfully without getting overwhelmed with the details. Case managers can also offer guidance and recommendations on other essential resources necessary for recovery.

Drug Court
Clients facing a sentence for jail time with substance use charges may qualify for drug court services. Through drug court, clients are given the opportunity to participate in outpatient substance use treatment services in lieu of having to serve their sentence.
Qualified clients are appointed a probation officer, expected to conduct weekly drug screens, and attend group treatment programs led by qualified clinicians. Brand new clients may be expected to attend up to three outpatient therapy groups a week as well as community meetings. As clients progress through drug court, the number of meetings required will decrease based on a client's level of need.
Outpatient-Based Opioid Treatment (OBOT) Replacement Therapy
Substance Use clients struggling with opioid addiction may qualify for outpatient-based opioid treatment (OBOT). Southside Behavioral Health clinicians are able to assist clients with both opioid treatment induction and maintenance. These replacement therapy services can be provided either face-to-face or through telemed with the assistance of a nurse practitioner.
To qualify for induction, clients must be in active withdrawals. Qualified clients are given induction medication in the office and monitored to make sure their withdrawal symptoms stabilize.

After clients are determined to be stable, they are prescribed additional suboxone prescriptions for the week. They must also participate in treatment maintenance. During opioid treatment maintenance, clients are prescribed medication, expected to complete drug screens, and participate in weekly outpatient therapy.

Coordination & Referrals
Southside Behavioral Health Therapists are able to help coordinate referrals for clients who need additional services outside of our current offerings. For example, if a substance use client needs detoxification or residential services, our therapists can help coordinate these resources, make connections, and arrange the care they need.
Peer Services
Peer Services are led by survivors: people who have walked in a client's shoes. This allows them to better understand and predict various stressors a client may be struggling with. Peer group leaders have completed training and are employed as Peer Recovery Specialists.
This group therapy service is designed to help clients open up and feel more comfortable discussing health-related topics with their peers. It also provides them with useful resources within their communities as well as with coping behaviors for working through various stressors clients may be struggling with.
