Behavioral Health and Wellness
Same Day Access
Southside Behavioral Health's healthcare professionals are available weekdays Monday through Friday for same-day assessments. At Southside Behavioral Health, we make it a priority to get clients the help they need, when they need it. Same day assessments are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis and there is no appointment necessary. For a complete list of locations and times, please see Appointments & Scheduling or call 1-833-272-2778 (1-833-CSB-APPT).

Comprehensive Assessment
On their initial visit, behavioral health clients meet with one of our highly trained therapists to complete a comprehensive assessment. Clients are asked questions about their history, symptoms, previous treatments, and current needs. Based on assessment results, Southside Behavioral Health's therapists will recommend one or more treatment services specifically tailored to each client. (If clients need services outside our current offerings, appropriate referrals will be made within the community.)
For example, behavioral health clients may be recommended a combination of outpatient therapy, case management, and psychiatry. This combination targets medication needs while also providing clients with the coping skills necessary to handle external triggers they may face every day and avoid unhealthy stress. Case management would give clients an extra level of support in the community, allowing them to locate helpful resources and have regular check-ins with someone for additional support.
Outpatient Therapy
At Southside Behavioral Health, our ultimate goal is to improve the quality of life for our clients. Outpatient Services are one of the many ways through which this is possible. Our behavioral health offices located in Brunswick, Mecklenburg, and Halifax all offer outpatient therapy services focused on a variety of behavioral concerns. Our licensed nurses and practitioners can offer support for individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, substance use, attention deficit disorder, and more. We pride ourselves on being able to build a customized approach that specifically meets the needs of each client.

Southside Behavioral Health provides individual and group therapy options that address mental health concerns in both adults and children. These specialized treatment plans are arranged around individual client needs and carried out at one of our three behavioral health offices. Child therapy options must incorporate a primary caregiver.

Psychiatry
Continuing our quest to provide accessible and comprehensive services for clients, Southside Behavioral Health has a team of psychiatrists and nurse practitioners available for either face-to-face or telemed psychiatry sessions. Our licensed health professionals are on-hand to provide evaluations as well as medication management based on individual client needs.
Nursing Care
Our Behavioral Health offices located in Brunswick, Halifax, and Mecklenburg have licensed nurses on staff to help administer medication injections as prescribed by a practitioner. In addition to this, nurses assist with coordinating client care and treatment.
Criteria for Admission:
At Southside Behavioral Health, we believe a comprehensive treatment plan that addresses a wide variety of needs is the best way to help clients succeed. For this reason, Psychiatry Services are only available as part of a comprehensive treatment plan and are not offered as a stand-alone service.
Case Management
We strive to meet all client needs to the best of our abilities. An important piece of our behavioral health team, case managers are no exception to this. They can both understand and predict how environmental stressors and physical health affect daily life and contribute to an individual’s well-being. These qualified mental health professionals are experts in their field and well-connected members of their local communities.
Our case managers assist individuals (children and adults) with accessing needed medical, psychiatric, social, educational, and vocational services. Case managers also connect clients to whatever specialized resources and support they may need within their communities. Additionally, they continually check-in and assess clients in order to quickly address any additional levels of need or support as well as to evaluate client satisfaction and success on an individual level.

Mental Health Skill Building
Mental Health Skill Building offers enhanced specialized services for clients with higher needs. These services are based on a comprehensive assessment and can include any of the following independent living skills: cleaning, medication management, basic hygiene, budgeting, and menu planning. These services are specifically tailored to the needs of individual clients. For example, one client may need menu planning assistance around a certain type of medication. Mental Health Skill Building is an important way for clients to get the education and experience they need to make healthy choices every day.
An important resource for those struggling with mental health, Psychosocial Rehabilitation is a great way for clients to integrate themselves into the community and learn important skills needed for everyday life. This service provides clients with a unique mix of education, socialization, and peer support. For example, clients integrate into the community with shopping trips and lunch dates that teach important life skills, such as communication and budgeting. Clients can also participate in medication training and talk about different symptoms with peers in a safe, educational environment.
Overall, this gives clients practice and confidence in developing healthy, stable relationships needed to cope with everyday life.

Restoration Services
Southside Behavioral Health offers Restoration Case Management Services to clients facing legal charges. This service is offered to clients deemed “incompetent to stand trial” through an initial psychological evaluation or who may not otherwise understand the legal charges they are facing. Restoration case managers do their best to assist clients and attorneys in legal proceedings and help clients understand any charges that have been brought against them.
Permanent Supportive Housing
Aimed at keeping those most at risk off the streets, Southside Behavioral Health has recently added Permanent Supportive Housing to our menu of case management services. This service is a proven solution for helping vulnerable members of our communities stay off the street and reduce homelessness. It works by connecting clients with case managers and affordable housing in order to foster independent living skills and help integrate clients into their communities.

Peer Services
Peer Services offers clients a support network for sharing experiences, learning effective coping strategies, and coping with day-to-day stressors. Peer service support groups are led by Peer Recovery Specialists. These individuals have their own “lived experience” with mental health and/or substance use. As such, they can use this experience to provide individual and/or group sessions around relevant topics related to issues with recovery. Through Peer Services, clients become more comfortable discussing details of their recovery as well as gain access to community resources useful for success.
Mentoring
Southside Behavioral Health is happy to announce that we now provide mentoring services for children and families. We do this in the hope of helping children (and their families) learn how to set healthy boundaries by focusing on improving communication and interpersonal skills, which will also foster healthy self-esteem and confidence.
