SBH Launches Children’s Services Mobile Crisis Unit
Southside Behavioral Health now provides mobile crisis children’s services to the counties of Brunswick, Halifax, and Mecklenburg. These services are available immediately to the public and are intended to reduce the use of hospital emergency rooms for mental health crises. By treating children where the crisis is occurring instead of in a medical setting, Southside Behavioral Health will assist community members in avoiding unnecessary medical bills as well as preventing additional trauma for children in crisis by keeping them out of a hospital setting. This service will also help our local hospitals reduce emergency department wait times and prevent avoidable visits.
Through mobile crisis, Southside Behavioral Health will add a valuable service to our local communities as well as connect our most vulnerable individuals to services when they need them most. To access services, call 1-833-377-7272. Once connected, individuals will be screened over the phone to determine if mobile crisis is appropriate before having a certified therapist dispatched to the location where the crisis is occurring. Once on-site, the therapist will assist in de-escalating the crisis and create a stable environment as well as connect the individual(s) to any other necessary services that may be useful.
This service was launched internally within the agency on June 1st. Now Southside Behavioral Health is happy to offer it to our local community members. To access this new service, call 1-833-377-7272 between the hours of 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. Join us as we take the next step on our journey to build stronger, more resilient communities.
