Our recent SMVF (Service Members, Veterans, and Families) Mental Health Summit at The Prizery in South Boston was an incredible success! With over 100 attendees, the day was filled with riveting and engaging presentations that sparked meaningful conversations, offered practical insights, and supported our community’s wellness and resilience.
The agenda featured expert-led sessions on topics like PTSD treatment, military sexual trauma, suicide prevention, yoga and mindfulness, EMDR therapy, stress responses, and more. Highlights included:
-
Ben Shaw’s impactful keynote: “The Going is Easy, The Coming Home is Not”
-
Sessions on gaming & gambling, VA S.A.V.E., and Lock and Talk VA
-
A moving local provider panel and an energizing yoga & mindfulness practice
We’re deeply grateful to our presenters, whose knowledge and compassion made the day so enriching, and to our volunteers, whose dedication made the entire event possible.
A heartfelt thank you to our event partners—Danville-Pittsylvania Community Services, Blue Ridge Behavioral Health, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs—for their invaluable support in making this summit a reality! Check out all our partners and tables linked HERE
