SBH Announces Temporary Closings
Southside Behavioral Health operates multiple services in the counties of Halifax, Mecklenburg, and Brunswick counties for individuals that have mental health and substance use issues and individuals with intellectual disabilities. As with many other businesses we have struggled with hiring qualified staff to provide direct services to our clients. Many of our services are requiring staff to provide coverage for open positions requiring them to work extra hours and have larger caseloads.
In our residential programs, we are in a crisis situation where we are quickly reaching the point where we are concerned about the safety of the individuals in our programs. This has required us to reevaluate how to ensure that the individuals who live in our residential homes are provided the safety and support that they need to remain independent in their homes.
Due to this, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily close one residential facility, Marc Manor, and also temporarily close the Mecklenburg intellectual disabilities day support program located at the John H. Northington center, 703 Lombardy Street, South Hill, VA. Staff from these facilities will be reassigned to the two other residential homes in South Hill to provide coverage for schedules.
We regret that we have had to make this decision as it affects the lives of our staff, the individuals in our residential facilities, and their families. However, our concerns about the safety of the individuals is always our top priority. Once this has been addressed and the staff ratios have been stabilized, we will reopen the residential facility and the day support program at the John H. Northington center.
