Evella Hutcheson

Evella Watkins Hutcheson was born in Mecklenburg County VA and attended college at Virginia Union University where she received dual degrees in biology and chemistry. Ms. Hutcheson went on to obtain her master’s degree in Science Education from Virginia State University. Ms. Hutcheson taught high school science classes in Granville County and Halifax County for 40 years where she says that teaching and working with kids “was like floating on a cloud.” She loved working with her students and motivating them to go on to do great things, and many of them did. She has run into her students as doctors at Duke and many other places where she is constantly told what a great influence she has been on that student’s success. Ms. Hutcheson became a member of the board of directors at Southside Behavioral Health to learn about the agency and to continue to be a part of the community where she lives.
