More About the Marcus Alert
The Marcus Alert aims to provide behavioral health responses to behavioral health emergencies and reduce negative outcomes involving use of force in law enforcement interactions when an individual is experiencing a behavior health crisis related to a mental health, substance use, or developmental disability.
The Alert is named for Marcus-David Peters, a young, Black, biology teacher who was shot
by Richmond police in 2018 in the midst of a mental health crisis.
