SBH is seeking a qualified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner that will provide outpatient psychiatric evaluation and treatment of clients with acute mental health concerns. Psychiatric services will be offered at Southside Behavioral Health’s (SBH) Response and Recovery Center (RRC) in South Hill, VA. Clientele for the RRC may present voluntarily for mental health care or be under Emergency Custody Orders (ECOs). These clients are also more likely to be experiencing mental health crises and have Serious Mental Illnesses (SMI), Developmental Disability (DD), and/or Substance Use Disorders (SUD). While services will be based at the RRC, there may be occasions where the PMHNP would provide telehealth services to serve clients at remote locations.

Responsibilities

  • The PMHNP serves as a vital member of SBH’s multidisciplinary community mental health team and will provide psychiatric services to those in crisis in the RRC or in conjunction with partners in an alternative community setting, like a local Emergency Room. 
  • Determining a client’s appropriateness for admission and medical clearance, the PMHNP is expected to order, review, and interpret laboratory results and diagnostic studies. When needed, the PMHNP will also coordinate client care with other medical and psychiatric providers, including transfer to an outside facility
  • The PMHNP is expected to coordinate their work with SBH’s outpatient counseling services and liaise with community partners and agencies, as per CS direction.
  • May need to o provide after-hours and on-call coverage for crisis stabilization and emergency services

Qualifications

  • Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing.
  • Licensure in Virginia as a Nurse Practitioner with formal training and Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). A minimum of two years ’ experience is preferred. 
  • Certified Advanced Practice Program in Psychiatry and Mental Health for Nurse Practitioners. 
  • CIT Training, Assist training and REVIVE training required or must be completed within 120 days of employment (provided by Southside Behavioral Health).
  • Must meet all criminal background and drug screening requirements.
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record, required.
