Southside Behavioral Health provides individualized culturally competent care in our communities, by supporting wellness and quality of life in a recovery-oriented environment and professional manner. Covering the counties of Halifax, Mecklenburg and Brunswick, VA. Our behavioral health services are backed with community involvement and values.

SBH is seeking a full-time community educator and presenter for our Behavioral Health and Wellness Specialist role, to join our growing and dynamic team. This position works with a collaborative team to provide substance use prevention (harm reduction), suicide prevention, ACEs  and mental health education resources and training to the Southside community.

Responsibilities

  • Support the continued growth of the Southside Wellness Coalition and our Trauma Informed Care Network.  
  • Will need to be comfortable presenting and speaking to groups, have strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to build relationships, and have strong organizational skills.  
  • Opportunity to receive trainer certifications in multiple evidence-based training, participate in state-level prevention projects, and participate in National Conferences. 
  • Duties may include meeting with local stakeholders on behalf of the agency, tabling at a community event, leading an evidence-based training to community members, developing content for a media campaign, doing data entry to support efforts, and more exciting opportunities to support our local communities. 
  • Conducts merchant education at tobacco retailer locations across the three county area of coverage: Halifax, Mecklenburg and Brunswick counties.
