Southside Behavioral Health provides individualized culturally competent care in our communities, by supporting wellness and quality of life in a recovery-oriented environment and professional manner. Covering the counties of Halifax, Mecklenburg and Brunswick, VA. Our behavioral health services are backed with community involvement and values.

SBH is seeking a qualified individual for our Permanent Supportive Housing program, who will work with individuals 21 years of age or older receiving behavioral health and/or substance use disorder services to develop and maintain a path to recovery, resiliency and wellness. Serves as an advocate and mentor for individuals seeking recovery and wellness based on the unique perspective of having been a recipient of mental health and/or substance abuse services.  Directly supports and assists consumers and families/caregivers in the utilization of appropriate community resources. Provides education, support and advocacy in coping with immediate situations.  Assists in helping consumers and those who support them to articulate their needs.  A requirement of this position is that the incumbent must be trained and certified as a peer recovery specialist; must be successful in their own recovery process; must have been (or is currently) receiving mental health and/or substance abuse services; and must be willing to share personal recovery experiences as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Provides person centered services based on the individual’s identified needs, established medical necessity criteria, recommendations of a licensed mental health professional and goals identified in the individual’s Recovery Resiliency and Wellness Plan (RRWP).
  • Advocates for and serves as a role model of recovery to individuals, their families and the community.
  • Communicates, represents and promotes the individuals’ and families’ perspective within the mental health system.
  • Provides services in the office and/or the community and provides outreach and 
  • support to individuals in need. 

 

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; Associates degree preferred.
  • Registered Peer Recovery Specialist-VA and hold an active Certified Peer Recovery Specialist certification or be eligible to obtain the registration within 6 months of hire
  • Must have been (or is currently) receiving treatment with a diagnosis of mental health and/or substance abuse with 3-5 years of successful recovery.
  • Must meet all criminal background and drug screening requirements.
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record, required.
