Southside Behavioral Health provides individualized culturally competent care in our communities, by supporting wellness and quality of life in a recovery-oriented environment and professional manner. Covering the counties of Halifax, Mecklenburg and Brunswick, VA. our behavioral health services are supported by   community involvement and professional values.

Provides crisis intervention, crisis stabilization, and referrals to needed clinical services to clients in the community. This position is based in the professional’s home, with immediate response to the community when dispatched by the Crisis Hub and a minimum of weekly onsite check-ins at the SBH Response & Recovery Center.  Provides services within 1 hour of home base and is required to respond within 1 hour of dispatch.  Residency in Halifax County, Mecklenburg County, or Brunswick County required.  Works as part of the Regional Mobile Crisis team to assure services and resources are coordinated among providers as needed to help individuals served live and function optimally in the community in the least restrictive environment. Works closely with the Regional Mobile Crisis team, Child and Family Services Department, Outpatient Services Emergency Services and REACH.  Knowledge and experience with working with individuals experiencing behavioral health crises and techniques and interventions to effectively de-escalate crisis situations required.


  • Provides person-centered planning and support to promote the development of self-advocacy skills.
  • Empowers individuals in crisis to be an active participant in the resolution of the crisis.
  • Provides clients with positive symptom management techniques, self-management techniques, problem solving skills, coping mechanisms, and communication strategies.
  • Works to establish linkages between individuals served and natural support systems.
  • Maintains complete and accurate medical records, and completes all incident reports as per SBH policy.


  • High school diploma or equivalent required ; associate degree in the human service field preferred. 
  • Registered Peer Recovery Specialist-VA and hold an active Certified Peer Recovery Specialist certification or be eligible to obtain the registration within 6 months of hire.
  • Must meet all criminal background and drug screening requirements.
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record, required.
