SBH is seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Court Services Clinician. The individual will provide comprehensive behavioral health assessments, diagnosis, treatment, crisis intervention, care coordination, and case management services to children, adolescents, and their families referred through the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, Court Services Unit (CSU), schools, social services, law enforcement, and other community partners. The clinician collaborates with the judiciary and multidisciplinary teams to improve behavioral health outcomes, reduce recidivism, strengthen family functioning, and connect youth with community-based treatment and support. In partnership with the VA Department of Juvenile Justice, 10th District Court Service Unit, the incumbent in this position offers clinical expertise to assist the Court Service Unit in juvenile and custody cases by completing assessments, making recommendations, and supporting clients and families involved in the legal system. The Court Services Clinician will work collaboratively with the 10th District Court Service Unit to provide objective clinical assessment, professional recommendations to the judge, and ongoing therapeutic support for youth and families. This clinician will prepare formal reports, recommend appropriate services, and support court-ordered treatment plans and community resources.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive clinical evaluations for juvenile cases, including:
- Interviews with family members and relevant parties
- Behavioral assessment
- Prepare detailed, objective written reports and recommendations for judges and legal professionals about the best interests of the child.
- Work collaboratively with clients and families to:
- Provide supportive counseling and therapeutic intervention
- Coach, motivate, and support positive behavioral outcomes
- Improve family functioning and engagement
- Provide psychoeducation to parents, caregivers, legal representatives, and team members on the effects of high-conflict environments on child development.
- Develop individualized treatment plans and monitor progress in court-ordered programs.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation in accordance with regulatory standards and agency policy.
- Coordinate services with Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, Court Services Unit, Department of Social Services, schools, law enforcement, attorneys, probation officers, and other community providers.
- Coordinate referrals for psychiatric evaluation, medication management, psychological testing, residential treatment, intensive in-home services, and other community resources.Participate in clinical supervision, peer review, utilization review, and quality improvement activities.
- Attend court hearings, multidisciplinary team meetings, or other coordination of care meetings as needed, e.g. Family Assessment and Planning Team (FAPT) meetings, Individual Education Program (IEP) meetings, and other staffing as assigned.

- Outpatient counseling
- Case management services
- Or other Community-based supports
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related Human Services field.
- Licensed clinician (e.g., LCSW, LPC, LMFT, Psychologist) OR license-eligible (actively pursuing supervision and licensure) in Virginia.
- Two years experience (preferred) working with children/youths and families with significant emotional and behavioral issues
- Knowledge of Evidence Based Practices for children/adolescents, families, and complex systems.
- Must meet all criminal background and drug screening requirements.
- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record, required.
