Our Story
1972
Southside Behavioral Health (SBH), previously Southside Community Services Board, was established.
1974
SBH begins operating from the old jail in Boydton, Virginia.
1975
Infant development services begin.
1976
Mental health centers begin operation in Brunswick, Halifax, and Mecklenburg counties.
1977
The Mecklenburg/Brunswick Adult Activity Center opens in South Hill, Virginia.
1980
Creative Innovation Centers, previously Developmental Training Centers, open in Mecklenburg and Brunswick counties. Adult Developmental Disability foster care services begin.

1983
Noblin Group home opens in South Boston, Virginia.
1984
Adult Rehabilitation program opens in South Boston, Virginia. Atlantic House Independent Living opens in South Hill, Virginia. John H. Northington Shelter workshop opens in South Hill.

1986
Behavioral Health Center and Administrative offices open in South Boston.
1993
Ashley manor opens in LaCrosse.
1994
Brandon Home and Gateway-Halifax Independent Living Apartments open in South Boston.
1996
Community Support opens in South Hill.
1997
Mecklenburg Behavioral Health Center & Alberta Manor Independent Living apartments open.

1999
Halifax Creative Innovations (previously a Developmental Training Center) & Community Support Program open in South Boston.
2001
Rainbow House opens in Lawrenceville, VA.
2003
Marc Manor opens in LaCrosse, Virginia.
2005
Telepsychiatry services begin use with children.
2006
Kings Manor opens in South Boston. Hope House opens in LaCrosse.
2009
Children and Family Services opens in South Boston and Boydton, Virginia.

2010
Community Support program opens in Lawrenceville.
2011
Implement an electronic health records system.
2012
Administrative Services moves to Clarksville.

2016
STEP VA revamps mental health services to increase access.
2017
Drug court services begin in Halifax.
2018
Same Day Access becomes available.
2019
Outpatient-Based Opioid Treatment becomes available to the community.
2020
Southside Behavioral Health, previously Southside Community Services Board, gets a new name and image.
In response to the COVID-19 Health Crisis, Southside Behavioral Health develops telehealth medicine.
Outpatient-Based Opioid Treatment is offered inside jails.
